Full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, it's rich but lively, with a deep core of fruit and an ample endowment of ripe, powdery tannins. Fuller maturity and a more rigorous selection over the last two decades have brought what proprietor Bruno Borie characterizes as additional "punch" to this wine, in the form of unprecedented levels of anthocyanins and tannins, but all that substance and structure will require some patience before we'll see if Ducru is still Saint-Julien's most elegant wine. With its optimally situated gravel soils on the bank of the Gironde around its grand 19th-century chateau, Ducru-Beaucaillou can boast one of the finest terroirs of the entire Medoc. Planted at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare and farmed organically since 2018, with high canopies and seasonal cover crops, the percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon is increasing at the expense of Merlot. Macerations are classical, followed by elevage in long-seasoned new oak barrels, and only around one-third of the estate's Saint-Julien production makes it into the grand vin. サン・ジュリアンのラフィットと謳われるスーパーセカンド！
山吹色のエチケットがトレードマークのデュクリュ・ボーカイユ。誰でも一度目にしたら忘れられない印象的なこのボトルは、今昔問わずワイン通に愛されてきたシャトーです。
デュクリュ・ボーカイユはもともとは「ボーカイユ」として、定評があったシャトーですが、 1795年にベルトラン・デュクリュ氏が買い取り、品質が向上。
その際シャトーの名前は現在の「デュクリュ・ボーカイユ」へ変更となり、1855年のメドック格付けにて第二級に制定されました。
その後、相続や買収によりオーナーが何度か交替しましたが、名声が落ちることはなく1941年に現在のオーナーであるボリー家の手に渡っています。
ボリー家は家族揃ってワイン造りの腕利き。
現在ではポイヤックの、シャトー・オー・バタイィ、シャトー・グラン・ピュイ・ラコスト、シャトー・ラグランジュの一部を買い取り醸造を始めています。
また、「サン・ジュリアンのラフィット」とも称され、スーパーセカンドの代表格でもあり、ロバート・パーカー氏も「投資の対象というよりは、ワイン通が好んで買うワインなのである。品質に対するコストパフォーマンスの点では、ボルドーのスーパーセカンドで最も興味深いワインの1つだ。」(『ボルドー第四版』より）と高評価しています。
